Finnish conductor Osmo Vanska takes listeners though Mendelssohn's Scottish travelogue, filled with portraits of the highlands, country dances and the tragedy of Mary, Queen of Scots. Internationally renowned artist and local Chicago resident Vadim Gluzman performs Bruch's beloved First Violin Concerto. "Gluzman's playing is entirely bewitching. Drawing intoxicating tones, Gluzman combines awesome technical ease with a sweet Oistrakh-like sound" (The Strad).
