Get RED CARPET ready, because summer reading for kids has just got better and this exclusive event is all about the kids! Professional Speaker and Best Selling Author, Dr. Pamela Gurley has released the first two books of her 20-book children's series, Brown GIRL and Brown BOY. Dr. Pamela Gurley will be reading her first two installments, Brown GIRL, Be Social and Brown BOY, Be Social to introduce party guests to the dynamic duo of her series. Both books are available for purchase online at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and other online stores worldwide. The Brown GIRL and Brown BOY series will address some of the greatest challenges children are facing today. Part of the collection includes three special edition books that highlight black and brown children with down syndrome, autism, and other physical disabilities. Centrally focusing on representational childhood literacy, the goal of the series is to teach kids social skills, confidence, self-worth, and body positivity. Literacy is important and what better way to kick off summer reading than having black and brown kids see themselves in the books they read. As Dr. Gurley says, "Representation is not just about color. It is also about culturally setting a standard of excellence for our children." The event will be on August 14, 2021 and held at The Chicago Theater Works at 1113 W. Belmont in Chicago, IL. Doors to the event will open at 12:00 pm and tickets for general admission starts at five dollars. A red carpet will welcome attendees and gift bags will be provided for those who purchase a copy of her books. Food trucks and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for event goers.
